Awkwardness

14 12 2008

I’m gonna have to be honest with you – I do feel very socially awkward in big group settings.

And I am not even talking about really big groups.

I am only talking about groups of 10, 20 people.

I’d much, much prefer hanging out with 3, 4 people max. That’s something I just learned about myself.

Just last night, even.

I mean it’s nothing new, but I guess I just never accepted it.

I think I am quite, quite, quite afraid of making myself vulnerable.

Anyways, while it’s snowing beautiful white snowflakes right now, it WAS bright and sunny earlier today and I took the opportunity to take some photos of the car:

Car Post 2.5

11 12 2008

Not exactly a post, just a photo upload I guess.

Too lazy to type now, spent the whole night running around town.  Didn’t kill anyone or die or anything.

All is well.

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure:

Because of how bad the economy is, the dealership were doing a “buy one get one free” deal.  So basically I ended up getting 2 VW Golf’s.

Look, that third picture the car is actually glowing!  How spiritual.

Car post #2

7 12 2008

In what I believe to be only my second ever post on cars (at least since I moved to wordpress), I am announcing that I have finally made the purchase.

The car will be ready for pickup this Wednesday, the fated day on which I will also be taking a 4.5 hour written exam with Canada Border Services (I very randomly applied to become a Border Services Officer a couple of months ago).

Throughout this month-long journey of car-selling and car-buying I have learned a heck load about myself.

Some of these things include:

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

- I have had to cast out a lot of demons from myself “The Exorcist” style, as the demon who possessed me and almost got me buying the Jeep Wrangler was a rather strong fella

- I found out that I had almost forgotten about Justification Through Faith and faith alone, and that Jesus Christ really loves me the same whether I drive a Japanese car or an American car – this IS true, even though there are still voices in my head that say otherwise

- I found out that my mom really ISN’T as open-minded as I thought she was, and that she WOULD feel slightly uncomfortable if I married a non-Asian girl

- I found out that everyone is really out there to low-ball you, and that you really have to stand up for yourself if you want to “be a man and do the right thing” and get a good deal

- I found out who the dominant male figure in my life has really been for all this time

- I found out that 0% financing is really just a cover-up for the dealers to make the money you would’ve otherwise saved if you had gone for a cash deal

- I found out that when you have a Christian friend who is willing to give you a phone call all the way from Ontario just to check if you’re indeed okay, you really aren’t “entitled” to calling yourself a loner.  Although to say “suck it up and be a man” would not be the best approach either, as it sort of throws out the fact that the Holy Spirit – GOD – lives inside of me and enables me

- I found out that East Van is indeed a lot more interesting than downtown Vancouver, and that Broadway station has become my new “hangout spot”

- I found out that the view from the Skytrain at Stadium – looking down at False Creek right next to Science World – can be quite breathtaking, especially during sunset

- I found out that Starbucks #163 (the store I worked at) has just hired a few pretty baristas and that I should’ve never ever quit the job.  Shame on me.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Anyways, I will post some pictures once I get my hands on the new car.

I am a bit worried about getting the car home though, as I have only ever driven manual transmission for a total of, say, 2-3 hours in my life.    But I think I will cope.

Cars

17 11 2008

I used to be a real car nerd when I was a teen. I could quote you a lot of stats for dozens of cars.  How long it took for them to get from 0-60mph (according to R&T, that is), how much horsepower a car had, etc.

I suppose you really don’t have much of a choice when you live in the same house as 5 other teenage guys.  Especially when your very own brother is a car-freak/auto-mechanic.

But ever since I grew up a bit, I have come to accept that as long as the car moves and goes over bumps smoothly, I wouldn’t complain……

……until this week.

A series of events in the past few weeks led to me finally deciding to sell off the girly car we own.  Sold it today.  It was a bit creepy, as the buyer paid me in cash and I had to get home from Surrey on the Skytrain.

Kind of an adventure when you open your backpack and you see a whooping stack of $100’s.

It really is a girly car.  I mean, even the buyer said it.  In fact he said it a total of 3 times during his 10 minute test drive.

Here’s a photograph of the car my brother took of the car from years ago, you tell me whether it’s girly or not:

Too pretty to be a man’s car.

Now I just need to sell off our SUV.

And then, I am really going to consider getting my dream car.

Yes, THAT dream car.

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

This one.

Only problem is, this is also somewhat of a girly car.  I mean I could easily imagine someone like Paris Hilton driving it.

Maybe I should just stick to the public transit……
